Art Festival in Santa Ana

It has been so long since the last time we had a public performance (which was the Inauguration Day I believe). Tonight we were all at the football court in Santa Ana, with all other art stands, food stands, and people gathering around us. The band began with Tendai playing the electric guitar, Paul playing the drum kit, David and Gaspar playing the bass and bangles interchangeably. They performed Christian songs - ten of them or so - for about an hour. I recognized many songs from our weekly Wednesday worships and sang along. I'm definitely not a Christian, but since I love playing the piano/keyboard, I have been coming to every worship and playing the piano for them. Then Lenard performed Canon in D, and Hugo the soundtrack from Amelie.

The percussion group started and went on so well. Standing there, I could see David gesturing along. The interim between the first and the second piece was effective, applauded a lot. And so was the short and sudden silences in piece 2. The end of piece 3 must have been very impressive, everybody just threw away their drumsticks and instruments at once and started clapping. After a while the crowd realized that we were clapping on purpose, not for applauding, and thus they stop. Quique led the second part, Ken then led the third one, and the three of them all adjusted and mixed together in a very nice pattern. David and some other people clapped along with us. It must have been so cool as well, how we stopped suddenly and determining. There was one or two second of silence and the crowd burst out. David rose up, kind of shouting "you guys are so cool!" and hug me so joyfully. I too was so happy, and of course everybody also felt the same. Such a great, great feeling it was.

Have been doing the yearbook work before and after... today is such a long, long day. A fun day as well.

Long weekend's Saturday afternoon

Four hours getting away from all the schoolwork!

So, in the afternoon Yuki and I went to a Japanese restaurant called "Samurai", which is near the Taco Bell. Inside, the arrangement and decoration was so Japanese. Well, it wasn't like traditionally Japanese, on the contrary it was kind of western... but something about it, we didn't know, perhaps the murals on the walls, or the chef's customs, really gave us an impression of Nihon no ki.

The food was just amazingly good! Even Yuki had to say "this is really Japanese". We had Miso soup, tempura (ebi, shitake, and sweet potato), sushi nigiri (shake), sashimi (kajiki), wakare soba udon, teppan yaki ice cream. Oh, and we got to use chopsticks again :D

We asked for 4 carry away portions of different kinds of sushi, for people on campus, and then went shopping in Auto Mercardo. I didn't mean to stay there that long... but somehow we didn't leave until 4, with 5 bags of stuffs (mostly food). Weekend shopping, yea, didn't have that for more than half a year :)

So, at 5 we are back to campus again. Back to Heart of Darkness presentation, world lit paper, math portfolio, Spanish essays, Extended Essay... again. But I feel really refreshed, and oh, I have decided yesterday to restart TWN again. Not back for a Friday 13th !

Just some thoughts

If you think you had to do something because it was right, it doesn't mean you didn't have a choice. You did have a choice, and your choice was based on conscience. So if it does you unfair, don't complain. You did have a choice not to do it.

If you couldn't practice the piano because you didn't have the key to the music room, it doesn't mean there is someone other than you to be blamed. You could have borrow it, or choose to use the keyboard in the residence, which sucks, but is still a keyboard. Be grateful that if you really wanted to, you wouldn't have to play with keys drawn on the ground. So if you think it's unfair, don't complain. You did have a chance to play, but you didn't because of your favor for a real piano, which I think wouldn't have been the case of real pianists who played because they loved to play.
